HIDs Act

The National Register of Individual Health Identifiers was established on the 27th July 2016. The Health Identifiers Act 2014 makes provision for the delegation of functions to the HSE. Accordingly, the Health Identifiers Service (HIDS) is the business unit within the HSE responsible for implementing the provisions contained within the Health Identifiers Act 2014, in partnership with HIDS Technical, the technical service that connects, captures and delivers information to health and social care users.

Two of the key areas of responsibility are the processes of bringing in data sources from Trusted Sources for the maintenance of the National IHI Register and Consumer Engagement to facilitate access to the National IHI Register. A Consumer may be both a recipient of the IHI, as well as a trusted source of data used to populate and update the National IHI Register.
