Kevin Kelly, Head of AI and Automation Centre of Excellence, HSE looked at the interest and excitement at the potential for AI deployment in healthcare, while addressing some of the concerns and risks. He also outlined the approach being planned in Ireland to ensure the safe and responsible deployment of AI to deliver more efficient and innovative healthcare for service users and the workforce.

Get an update on how AI is being used to help detect early signs of breast cancer reducing unnecessary recalls and improving cancer detection rates, The HSE National Screening Service is implementing Ireland's first national deployment of AI in healthcare through BreastCheck - the national breast screening programme.

This is-one of the first full-scale AI-enabled national screening programmes in Europe and will deliver huge health benefits including a reduction of unnecessary recalls of women for further assessment by 10-15%, detection of 20% more cancers, and cut specialist review time by 30-50%, freeing clinical capacity for complex cases.

This is an example of how Government AI Strategy commitments are producing tangible public service transformation by delivering better health outcomes, operational efficiency, and international leadership in AI-enabled healthcare solutions.
