The MN-CMS National Project Team is delighted to announce the Maternal and Newborn-Clinical Management System (MN-CMS) Gynaecology Electronic Chart has been successfully implemented at The Rotunda Hospital.  It is now possible to document gynaecology care within MN-CMS which was identified as a requirement as part of the review of Phase 1. MN-CMS has been in use at The Rotunda for maternity and newborn services since November 2017.

This is the second in a series of four planned implementations across the MN-CMS live sites which supports better, safer clinical decision-making and provides a more connected health service delivering improved health outcomes.  The Rotunda is the first Dublin hospital to adopt this fully digital system following Cork University Maternity Hospital who went live July this year, and will be closely followed by The National Maternity Hospital and University Hospital Kerry.  It is anticipated that this will extend the benefits already realised within the maternal and newborn services of the National Woman and Infants Health Programme in terms of patient safety, care delivery and improved patient experience.

The benefits of the Gynaecology Electronic Chart include:

  • Improved patient care as a result of better communication, clinical decision support and effective planning of care.
  • More effective and efficient recording of information reflecting best standards in documentation.
  • Risk reduction/avoidance
  • Cost savings as a result of changed work practices and use of resources: staff and supplies

And in the future:

  • Enhanced clinical audit and research locally as a result of better quality data.
  • Informed business intelligence that will drive local and national management decisions.

With strong clinical leadership, technically enabled by Cerner, the successful adoption is as a result of hard work, dedication and close collaboration between the Local Implementation and Back Office Teams across all four sites, the National MN-CMS Project and Back Office Teams, the Office of the Chief Information Officer, Cerner teams and the National Woman’s and Infant Health Programme .
