Cancer Care eHealth Programme Overview
The Office of the CIO created the Cancer Care eHealth Programme in conjunction with the National Cancer Control Programme, NCCP.
The projects, which are currently in progress:-
The National Cancer Information System, NCIS (previously MOCIS)
The goal of this project is to deliver a clinical information system to support the care of oncology and haemato-oncology patients including the provision of SACT, (Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy or Chemotherapy) across Ireland.
NCIS will provide relevant healthcare providers with access to the patient’s data at the point of care in accordance with NCCP care delivery model.
NCIS will incorporate NCCP Standardised Chemotherapy Regimens, Documentation, and Tumour Datasets
NCIS will provide functionality for the electronic prescribing of chemotherapy, therapy planning, SACT production and support for Multi-Disciplinary team meeting.
Capacity Planning Tool for Parenteral SACT
The goal of this project is the implementation and support of a centrally deployed, web-based application that provides a capacity-planning toolkit to support hospitals to aid their local service planning with regard to day ward activity and staffing requirements.
Cancer Genetics Information System
A business case is in preparation for the provision of a solution to support genetics risk assessment, counselling, testing, and surveillance.
NCIS- the National Cancer Information System was chosen as a more appropriate title in August 2018 and replaces MOCIS, the previously used working title. The suggestion to rebrand NCIS has come from the stakeholders who contributed to the various sessions related to the design, build and test stages of the project.
NCIS will provide functionality for Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy prescribing, scheduling and administration in addition to a Tumour Board solution providing a single view of a patient’s tumour record in any of the healthcare provider entities that the patient attends.
