Working closely with the NIMIS National Team as PACS Manager for Connolly Hospital for many years; this lead to my secondment to the NIMIS National Team in May 2018, which I am greatly enjoying. I'm currently working on the Children's Health Ireland implementation project, the NIMIS 2.0 RIS upgrade project and I have particular interest in departments outside of Radiology such as Respiratory and Cardiology.
I qualified as a Radiographer from University College Dublin in 1995 and worked in the National Orthopaedic Hospital of Ireland; Letterkenny University Hospital; and Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown where I still perform radiographer duties. I became interested in RIS/PACS as I wanted an alternative to the inefficient paper and film based system. I established "RUG", the RIS user group between Connolly Hospital, Naas Hospital and St. Columcille's in 1999, bringing together the hospitals, the local IT Departments and the vendor to improve the maintenance, performance and upgrades to the RIS application.
I was the PACS Manager for Connolly Hospital for 6 years. This included the NIMIS "go live" in 2012. I loved the technical and user challenges of bringing Radiology, Cardiology, Vascular, DXA and Respiratory Departments live in NIMIS. I am an advocate for bringing all imaging departments outside Radiology into NIMIS as I believe this improves patient care.
It's been a few years since my own competitive sporting days on the badminton courts, but my busy family life keeps me in shape. I mentor St. Oliver Plunkett's Eoghan Ruagh under 9's Girls Gaelic teams and enjoy following rugby, football and golf.
