Inaugural Meeting of eHealth Ireland Committee

The 22nd of October was the inaugural eHealth Ireland Committee meeting. The formation and meeting of this group is a significant milestone in building on the capability of the health sector in Ireland to focus on the creation of a digital fabric to support the provision of care throughout the health system.

Experts from various arenas across the EU came together and acted for the first time as a ‘think tank’ supporting the Office of the CIO as it begins to add further detail to how it will deliver the Knowledge and Information plan.

As this was the first gathering of the committee the office prepared briefing documents on each of the areas. These documents were prepared, not to enable the committee to manage the process (as this will be done through governance within the HSE and Department of Health), the updates were provided to enable the committee to begin its own journey from a point of understanding.

The key focus of this first meeting was on the structures of the teams and the progress made to date, the Office of the CIO is able to then call on the teams expertise in specific areas, for this first meeting this was specifically around the concepts related to the delivery of an Electronic Health Record.

The next meeting will be on the 17th of December. Minutes from this meeting will be published in advance of this date.
