Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence and Decision Support: Exploring new opportunities for innovation in the Irish Healthcare System
Date: Friday 2nd March 2018, 9am to 1pm
Location: Blackstone Launchpad Creative Zone, Boole Library, University College Cork
Decision making in the modern healthcare system presents serious challenges: How can we ensure positive outcomes for patients? How do we maximise limited resources? Are there better ways to care for people? The questions cannot be easily answered without examining existing data. Statistical analysis does not always produce meaningful results. Machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques, used under proper supervision, can yield useful insights into existing and improved care processes. Hosted by the Health Information Systems Research Centre (HISRC), this short symposium will present the state of the art in current techniques and outline some possible paths to improve healthcare decision making in the future. Jane Carolan, Interim CIO of the HSE will speak at 9:30 am.
