The Health Directory is the basis for the provision of identifiers for Health Service Providers (Practitioners and Organisations) as required by the Health Identifiers Act 2014.
Health Directory is a technical infrastructure which stores, maintains and publishes current, up-to-date, quality assured and verified standard codes and identifiers and geocodes for health related entities i.e. Practitioners, Organisations, Services, locations and the relationships between these entities.
The Directory effectively has 2 main functions:
From a business perspective – it is a National database of most up-to-date information in relation to health sites/locations, health care providers and services provided by the HSE & Private/Voluntary Organisations in Ireland, including contact/communication and geographical location information.
From a technical perspective - it allows electronic systems to integrate on a technical level by using standard unique identifiers for health care practitioners, health care organisations and health services enabling the sharing of information across numerous systems that may need to use the information.
The HIDs team are currently working with our colleagues in the HSE Digital team to develop a comprehensive, accurate and reliable Directory of Services. This project will be capturing data held in local community care offices and hospitals that will include lists and descriptions of services available, buildings, locations, care providers, opening hours etc.
